Burial, Cremation, Disposal
Somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again.
by Stanley Harrison, breeder, trainer, poet 1889-1980
After a horse death we must attend to cremation, burial, or simple disposal of the remains. The following are the companies that serve the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
Dignified Dead Animal Disposal
Roberta (Robbie) Warne
equine cremation, burial
D & D Services, Inc.
Guardian Animal Aftercare
Costs vary, sometimes in unexpected ways. Certainly they are rising as fuel costs rise. Transportation of the body to a crematory will cost $300 or more.
Prices for equine cremation vary, but expect to pay over $1000 for cremation for an average horse when the ashes are returned to you.
Both D & D Services, Inc. and Guardian Animal Aftercare use Dignified Dead Animal Disposal to deliver the body to their facilities. The fee for that transportation is paid by you, the horse owner, in addition to the fee for cremation.
For horse burial you must locate a pet cemetery willing and able to accommodate a horse. Franklin Pet Cemetery located at 2405 Ashby Rd., Merced, CA 95348, may be able to accommodate you. The cost of burying your horse will probably exceed $3,500. You can contact them for more information at 888-434-7192.
Death makes angels of us all . . .
Jim Morrison, musician, poet 1943-1971
Death is the black horse that comes someday into every man's camp, and no matter when that day comes, a brave man should be booted and spurred and ready to ride him out.
Captain W.O. "Buck" O'Neill
