Although I don't own an Icelandic Horse I can totally see the attraction: A tough, versatile, gaited horse, which comes in every color of the equine rainbow, and you don't have to find something to stand on to mount him if you dismount on the trail. (Can you tell I'm short?) I'm impressed with the tenacity with which owners maintain traditional names for their equine friends, though there are inherent difficulties with naming an animal in a language few, if any, speak where you live, not to mention one which uses a foreign alphabet. Here are some names to use for those of us who don't speak Icelandic, but still want to capture something of the poetry of Iceland, and its Viking heritage.
